BILQUIN DE CARTIER

This L shaped castle holds now the library but it dates back to the early 17th century when the Honoré family builds this castle on the foundations of an older dwelling. The families the Briffoz, Crissegnée and de Wal would also own the castle until it is bought by the ironmaster Guillaume Bliquin in 1695. He restored and remodeled the castle and his escutcheon can still been seen above the entrance gate. His daughter Agnes marries Jean-Louis Cartier, son of the Counsellor and Treasurer General to the Bishop-Prince and so the castle passes on to the Cartier family. They will keep it in their possession for two centuries. Tragedy strcks when the castle burns down in 1932. The local authorities of Marchienne-au-Pont by the castle in 1938
