The small charming village of Vurste is dominated by the vast domain of castle Borgwal. In the 17th the castle was used a weekend retreat for Anthonius Triest the Bisschop of Gent. Later on it was property of the noble family Goethals who sold the castle and domain in 1975 to a brother congregation who turned it into a home for mental handicapped adults. They added a lot of buildings for this home but the castle itself looks in bad shape and could use a thorough restoration. The castle can be viewed from the public road.
