The castle of the knights of Boutersem was an impressive stronghold that unfortunately was demolished completely in the 19th century. The castle had a massive square keep of four floors isolated on a artificial hill surrounded by a moat. In front of this keep stood a big square castle that was build by Jan Jacobus de Caestre. I have no clue what happened to the old castle but in 1890 a new castle was erected in neo Flemish style by the sugar industrial Joseph Betrand. The current owner Johan David Lambrechts is a fashion designer who works with leather. Every year he shows his summer and winter collections in his castle where you also can go if you are interested in buying some of his creations. The castle is private property but can be seen from the public road. The castle can be found in the village of Boutersem
