FALLAIS

The origin of this mighty castle goes supposedly so far back in history that it is says that this is the notorious Vatuca, a stronghold so impressive that Julius Caesar, according to his writings, was afraid of it. What we do know for certain is that the Fallais family expires in the 12th century and the mighty family the Beaufort becomes owner of the castle. The castle grew in the 15th century to be a big rectangle with sides of 45 by 65 meter with four big round towers on the corners. The castle stayed pretty much the same until 1881 when M. Preud'homme started major restoration work. The castle is now property of the Marnefee family and cannot be visited but can be admired from the public road. You find it in the city of Fallais.
