When you walk towards the castle of Herlaar you will see a sign saying private property entrance on your own risk. Just ignore this sign and walk to the castle. The alley that runs through the domain is open to hikers and it will bring you close to the castle. Castle Herlaar goes back to 1288 (although there are indications that it would even go back to the 10th century) when the Lords of Berlaer who would own the castle until the 15th century erected it after the battle of Woerdingen. A female descendant of this family married with Pieter van Brimeu, Lord of Poederlee. Their daughter Catharina married in 1497 with Adriaan Sandelyn. He rebuilds the castle that was not more than a ruin. In 1684 the castle went to the van Reynegom family.
The castle was restored and remodelled a couple of times throughout it long history. I do not know who owns the castle now but like I said before the domain is open so you can admire this chateau from close by. You find castle Herlaar in Herenthout
