Squire Jan de Proost Lord of Wechelderzande builds the castle in 1649. It was bought in 1686 by pastor Van Tichelt who turns it into a presbytery. During the French revolution the castle is confiscated and sold to Saunier a lawyer from Antwerp. In 1829 it is bought by Baron de Pret. The village Wechelderzande buys the castle in 1835 and it will serve as a presbytery again until 1964. Now it serves as the library. The castle is situated in a little public park. |
