LOENHOUT

Loenhout is situated in the North of the province Antwerp close to the border with the Netherlands. The seigniory dates back to the 13th century. Jan I van Hellebeke succeed his father as Lord of Loenhout and he is the one who most likely builds the first castle of Loenhout. Jan Baptist Walckiers de Gammerages buys the castle in 1734. He orders to demolish the old stronghold and orders the famous architect Jan Peter van Baurscheit to create a new castle. It is this castle that we still can admire now.
The current owners did a thorough restoration between 1969 and 1973. Castle Loenhout is private property but can be viewed from the public road.
