The castle of Loyers dates back to the end of the 13th century when there was a Wauthier de Loyers. In those times there zas only a keep. The current castle was built around this ancient keep. The entrance hall walls of the current castle were part of this ancient keep.
The first enlargement took place in the 15th century and another one in the 16th century. The castle and farm was again enlarged in the beginning of the 17th century. Also in the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century changes were made.
The castle was in the hands of the Beaufort family at the beginning of the 20th century. Now the castle and farm belong to the Foestraets family. A big restoration took place done by the architects P.Hautecler and P. Dumont in 1997.
The beautiful castle and farm that once was defended by a drawbridge can be viewed from the public road in the idyllic village Loyers.
