Merlemont is a little peaceful village that is dominated by an impressive castle. The oldest parts of the dwelling dates back to the 11th century when it was part of the Princedom of Liege. Later it was past on to the Lords of de Peshe and de Florennes. In 1590 it is the hands of the Lord of Roly. The castle is bought in 1739 by Charles Baillet. During next generation it goes to the family of Baillet-Labour who sell it on their turns to Nothomb in 1883.
I do not know who is the owner of the castle now, when I was there some restorations were going on of the out buildings. The castle is private property but you can see it from the valley
