ROODKASTEEL

There is already a mentioning in the chronicles of the 13th century about this castle. Nothing remains from this ancient stronghold the current castle was built between 1619 and 1631. The complex was erected in Maaslandse renaissance style. The castle underwent several restorations and remodeling throughout the years so that the original early 17th century castle changed drastically. There were some major alterations in the 18th century. The last major changes were done in the 19th century. A spacious living quarter was erected. The date on the wall tells us that those renovations were finished in 1878. After years of decay in witch most of the historical interior disappeared Lord Baillien who wanted to give the castle worthwhile destination bought the castle. The castle is now a restaurant / tavern where you can enjoy a meal or just a drink in tranquil surroundings.
