ROSENDAAL

Around 1220 the abbey of Roosendael was founded along the bank of the river Nete. The nuns followed the strict regime of the CisterciŽncers of Citeaux. The abbey had an eventful history until it was abolish in 1797 by the French.
In the 19th century a castle was erected on the foundations of the abbess quarter. This castle was destroyed during the first world war.
What remains of the castle are the foundations, the impressive entrance gate is a part that remains from the abbey. The park is open to walk in. The domain is located in Sint-Katelijbe-Waver
