SERAING LE CHATEAU

These ruins or going very far back in time. The fief belonged originally to the Lords of Haneffe who constructed a stronghold around 1302, The powerful the La Marck family acquired the castle by marriage the following century. The castle stayed in possession of the Counts La Marck until 1774 when countess of La Marck married the Duke of Arenberg. After the French Revolution the castle was sold to the Counts of Oultremont. The castle burned down in 1869 but was reconstructed to its medieval appearance. The castle is now abandoned for a many decades. All roofs and windows are gone and it doesn't look like anybody is interested in consolidating the ruins. You can not visit the ruins but you can view them from the public road.
