Speelhof was the country house of the Trudo abbey. It was a perfect place for the abbot to relax a bit in a green environment. The building was erected in 1562 and would stay property of the abbey until the French occupation. The city of Sint-Truiden bought the 36 hectometers big domain in 1989.
You reach the building by a long lane bordered with chestnut trees. The gate building with dovecot takes you into the square courtyard. Around the courtyard you find the castle that got its current look in the 18th century, the stables and barn from the 18th century.
You can rent several rooms in the castle for your parties. The park is open to the public and in the farm along side the castle complex is a tavern.
