This castle goes way back in time. In the current castle are still parts of the 11th century stronghold. The oldest part is the keep that dates back to that time period. The castle that is still surrounded by a moat is a collection of different building styles from the 17th, 18th, 19th century plus the 11th century keep. Throughout its history the castle was sold only one time. Baron Gilles Lambert de Villenfagne bought the domain from Count de Souza-Pacheco, ambassador of the Portuguese king in 1741. Since that day the castle is property and inhabited by the family de Villenfagne de Vogelsanck et du Saint-Empire. You can view this impressive castle from the public road on the Vogelsancklaan in the village of Heusden- Zolder
