This castle was named after the daughter of Pepijn van Landen. Gertrude van Landen was the founder of the abbey of Saint Gertrude in Nijvel. The congregation would own the estate for almost a thousand years. They sell it in the 17th century to the Bouvet family who would restore it and do some alterations to the building into what you still can see now. In 1808 the Favereau family owns it and in 1905 the Oban de Xivre family buys the estate and restore it.
The French Speaking Community buys the domain in 1977 and turns it into a haven of rural tourism.
